  • Do I need a vignette for all roads in Czech Republic?

No. The vignette is only required on motorways (D-roads) and expressways (R-roads). Regular first-class, second-class and local roads do not require a vignette. However, if any part of your route uses a motorway or expressway, you must have a valid vignette for your vehicle category.

  • Can I buy the vignette at the border?

Yes. Vignettes are available at authorised points of sale near major border crossings, including petrol stations and dedicated kiosks. However, not all minor border crossings have sales points. It is always safer to purchase online at edalnice.cz before your trip to avoid any issues at the border.

  • How quickly is the vignette valid after purchase?

If you select today as the start date, the vignette is valid immediately upon purchase. If you select a future start date, it becomes valid at 00:00 (midnight) on that date. There is no processing delay for same-day purchases.

  • What happens if I enter the wrong licence plate?

A vignette with an incorrect licence plate is invalid. You must not drive on motorways with an incorrectly registered vignette. Purchase a new vignette with the correct plate immediately. Contact CzechToll customer service to request a refund for the incorrectly registered vignette, providing your order number and proof of the error.

  • Is the vignette valid for all vehicles?

The standard digital vignette applies to vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes (categories J1, J2, J3). Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes use a separate electronic toll system (mýtné). Trailers and caravans require their own separate vignette. Some vehicles are exempt, including emergency services, diplomatic vehicles and vehicles with ZTP/P disabled badges.

  • Can I use a Czech vignette in other countries?

No. The Czech digital vignette is only valid on Czech motorways and expressways. If your journey continues into Austria, Slovakia, Germany or other neighbouring countries, you will need to purchase the relevant vignette or toll permit for each country separately.

  • What is the fine for driving without a vignette?

Driving on a Czech motorway without a valid vignette is a traffic offence. The on-the-spot fine can be up to 10,000 CZK. If the matter proceeds to administrative proceedings, the fine may be higher. Enforcement is carried out by automated camera systems and police spot checks.

  • Can I get a refund if I no longer need the vignette?

Refunds are available under specific conditions. For short-term vignettes (10-day, 30-day), a refund can be requested before the activation date. For annual vignettes, a partial refund for unused full calendar months may be available. Contact CzechToll customer service with your order number and reason for the refund request.

  • Do I need to display anything in my vehicle?

No. The Czech digital vignette is entirely electronic — there is no sticker to display on your windscreen. The vignette is registered in the national database and linked to your licence plate. Enforcement cameras read your plate automatically. You should keep your confirmation email as proof of purchase.

  • Can I purchase the vignette for a future date?

Yes. You can purchase a vignette with a start date up to 30 days in the future. This is useful for planning ahead or for purchasing before a trip. The vignette will not be active until the start date you selected.

  • What if I have a foreign-registered vehicle?

Foreign-registered vehicles are subject to the same vignette requirements as Czech-registered vehicles. If you drive a foreign-registered car on Czech motorways, you must have a valid Czech digital vignette. The vignette is purchased in the same way, using your foreign licence plate number.

  • Where can I verify that my vignette is valid?

You can verify your vignette at any time on the official edalnice.cz portal by entering your licence plate number. This is recommended after purchase, especially for first-time buyers. The verification tool shows the vignette type, validity period and registered vehicle details.
